Joys and Concerns for the Week 8/22/10

Hi Everyone,

Michael lead a great discussion on major themes of The Shack today. I thought the lesson went very well and went a long way toward answering some of those difficult questions we all have regarding God's role in everything. Thanks for leading that Michael.

This coming week we will have Jack Gibson coming to lead our final week on the Shack. I am sure it will be a "Can't miss" kind of lesson. I am looking forward to it.

Concerns:

Keenan is fighting a bad infection in his leg. Speedy recovery.
Also his Grandmother is in the hospital with elevated B/P issues.
Aaron had a rough Sat. night at Cowboy Chicken with some electrical issues. We hope that gets resolved and the doors open up again soon.
Amy's sister was in a bad car wreck and is still looking for employment.
Continue to keep Michael's Grandfather in your prayers

Joys:

Thankfully school is upon us again. Good luck to all of our students and teachers.
Jenna is doing great. Thanks for everything.

See you soon.

Cowboy Chicken

In caes it wasn't mentioned on Sunday, congrats to the White's on the opening of Cowboy Chicken in Allen!!!!

Baby Rodriguez is here!

Hi all...

Here is the note Julie and Wayne sent out about the birth of their baby. She didn't have everyone's email address with her so posting it here. Baby girl is having some tests run to rule out anything that may be related to the elevated amniotic fluid, but all going very well! She's a little spit fire with a head full of light brown hair. What a blessing!

Shack For Sunday 8/15

Hi everyone.

Hope your week is going well. I am putting the finishing touches on the study outline for this week's discussion on The Shack.

This week, we are going to focus on the images God uses for himself, and how that affects our personal belief systems and theologies. Think of the examples in the Book (and the Bible) of how God is described and what kinds of emotions and discussions follow. (Specifically how Mack describes their appearance through out the book and what they are doing or talking about.)

We will also look at the concept that the Trinity and it's importance. We'll focus on the "Breakfast of Champions" chapter 8 (I think) for that one. Interesting take.

Hopefully we'll find a strong link between the images God presents to us and their purpose/God's role in the world. It's a lot to cover so hopefully we can jump right in with both feet.

See you Sunday.

Joys and Concerns 8/8/10

Hi TB1! Hope you and your family are enjoying the weekend.

We had a small group today, but a great discussion on faith. Thanks to Jason Lincoln for teaching.

We have several traveling this week. Please pray for safety and happy memories.
*Virginia and Lane will be flying/driving to a family wedding.
*Michael goes to Austin and Boston for work the next 2 weeks. We are going up early to Boston for a much needed weekend away.
*Phil returns home at the end of the week. Continue to keep Amy and Lucas in your thoughts as he's already been gone for 1 week. :(

Also, Julie is nearing the end of her pregnancy. She has had some unexpected issues arise, but she's being monitored closely and we hope to see Baby R on or before 8/20.

I thought this Bible verse was comforting in light of all of our travelers...

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Blessings, Janessa
