2B1 Additional Notes

Here is the text from the email I sent earlier...

Hey Everyone,

I hope you had a nice weekend. It was great seeing such a full class this morning – if you couldn’t make it today, I hope to see you soon! We’ve got a lot going on as a class, so I thought I’d send out the updated class roster and the class calendar. In addition to the upcoming social and missions that Julie mentioned, I wanted to pass along a few other notes.
  • PIF class pledge – we are still working out the details but 2B1 has decided to pledge $1500 to the Paid in Full campaign. We’ll be collecting the money a variety of ways over the next two years.
  • Guests – We’ve had 3 couples visit over the past few weeks. Thanks to the Membership Committee for reaching out and offering a personal invitation to potential members. Steve and Janice’s attendance today was a direct result of Karla contacting them.
  • Prayer Basket – As a follow up to Janessa’s note from last week, we will start the Prayer Basket in October and it will run through the month. Details to follow…
  • Ladies Bible Study – contact Janessa if interested
  • Picture Wall – I’d like to get a picture wall up so when we have guests they can easily put faces with names. Also it would be a nice addition to our classroom décor. I know there has been talk in class about this and there are a few ideas out there. Creative aptitude is definitely not one of my spiritual gifts, so is there anyone out there who will volunteer to head this up? I’d like to get this going sooner rather than later.

God Bless and have a great week!
Michael

October Missions

(1) Our main mission this month will be Collin County Meals on Wheels Fall Harvest Boxes. Basically this is a copy box filled with grocery items such as soups, peanut butter, tuna, soap, toilet paper, etc. They have asked to please buy pull top cans whenever possible. Because of the logistics involved and the limited storage space they have, they have a specific list to use.

We decided as a class this past Sunday to put together 2 boxes. One box we will take the funds from the treasury and class members will collect the items for the second box. I will pass around a list next Sunday and you can put your name next to the item(s) you will be donating to the box. Please bring your items to class no later than October 11th. They have asked us to decorate the copy boxes as well. So if any of you would like to do that please let me know.

(2) The bloomobiles will be here on October 18th. If any of you are going to donate blood please let me know.

(3) Also they are collecting Halloween Costumes. So if you want to contribute to that please bring the costumes to class and I will get them to the correct people.

Thanks and have a great week!

Victor

Prayer Partners & Ladies' Bible Study

Hi all,

As mentioned today in class, we are going to try "prayer partners" for the month of October. Since this is a first for the class, let's make it simple. During the offering time each week, we'll also pass around a basket with class members' names for you to draw one. If you don't want to participate, no problem, just keep passing or let me know so I can exclude your name. For that week, please pray for that individual however you see fit and however you offer up your prayers. If you feel comfortable, you can also contact that individual to find out if they have specific prayer requests. And/or you may contact your partner at the end of the week with a word of encouragement, a favorite verse, etc...anything you may want to say to offer hope and transformation. There are no rules here!

Ladies: Angie had a great idea this morning that I wanted to get out there. She mentioned having a 4-6 week Bible study, possibly one by Beth Moore. Please leave a comment or email me (janessawilkins@att.net) if this is something you are interested in. I thought it could be an additional way to grow our relationship with each other and our Lord.

Have a great week!!! Janessa
Today we finished up the Paid in Full curriculum with an engaging conversation about the vision for the church's future. Next week we will be discussing a chapter from Adam Hamilton's book Shades of Gray. For the next several weeks we will be switching up curriculum between Shades of Gray one Sunday and a relationship study the next.

****Happy Birthday to Me September 22nd****

Joy & Concerns:
We have good news on the grandmother front. Erin & Erica's grandma made is safely to Arizona and she is settling nicely into her new home. Angie's grandma is home from the hospital and doing well.

Next Sunday is Commitment Sunday and the culmination of the Paid in Full campaign.

Missions:
Our class will be supporting the Meals on Wheels Harvest Box Collection by preparing boxes of food for senior citizens to be turned in by Oct. 11.

Social:
The October social is tentatively set for Sunday Oct. 11 from 4-6. We are going to take advantage of the hopefully good fall weather and have a class picnic at a local park. We will have full details next week.

Have a great week,
Julie

Weekly Update

I hope everyone is enjoying the lazy rainy weekend and staying dry. We had some drizzle at the Heroes for Children walk on Saturday but the weather didn't keep us from having fun supporting such a great organization. Today Jason Lincoln led a discussion on stewardship, next week Wayne will head up our last week of the Paid in Full curriculum. Sunday September 27th is commitment Sunday for the campaign.

+++++Happy Birthday to Karla, September 18th++++++

This week please continue to keep Lori Dusek and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Lori is recovering from surgery and will hopefully be home soon.

Thank you to Keenan, Janessa, and Virginia & Lane for manning our table at the Sunday school open house this morning. Also thank you to Janessa & Hannah for taking the coloring book donations to Children's Hosptial this week.

We will have information coming up next week about the October mission and social.
Have a wonderful week,
Julie

Sunday School Class Open House - This Sunday

Hey everyone,

Many of you know that this coming Sunday, Sept 13, is the annual Open House for Sunday School classes that the church sponsors. As I mentioned in class this past week, we will have a table and I'll take care of updating our brochure and having copies on the table. We will also be using the "activities" poster that is currently hanging on our wall. While the pictures are a little outdated, the social activities still remain the same.

We are not participating in the Bake Off portion, but Keenan has happily agreed to bring a couple bags of mini-Snickers to entice people to our table.

We do need some help manning the table during the morning. Here are the shifts:
8:15 - 8:40: Keenan
9:15 - 9:50:
10:40 - 11:00:

Kyla suggested that someone stay at the table during the entire 9:45 SS hour, but since we are not participating in the bakeoff, this isn't as important. However, we can work shifts throughout the hour, if needed.

Please let me know asap if anyone can help cover these times.

Thanks!
Virginia

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend. Michael led a good lesson teaching us about the heritage of the church. Next week we will be continuing the Paid in Full curriculum with the topic of stewardship. This afternoon we enjoyed visiting, eating ice cream, water sliding, and some fun with the Wii. Thank you to everyone who brought delicious homemade ice cream and other goodies.

If you get a chance this week check out the Two Become One facebook page that Virginia is working on. We are going to try it out and see if it is a good way for the class to communicate.
Joys & Concerns:
Philip has a coworker who will be traveling overseas for several months. She will be separated from her family during this time.

Miss Emily Wood is giving Chad and Lesley a few sleepless nights here and there. So keep them in your thoughts as they continue to adjust to family life with their little sweetie.

Missions:
We hope to see everyone at the Heroes for Children 5k on Saturday. If you haven't registered you can always register the morning of the race.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the coloring book collection. We had a box full of good stuff for the children's hospital. Janessa and Hannah will be taking our donation to the hospital later in the week.

Don't forget next Sunday is second Sunday brunch. I believe the recommended place for lunch is Babes in Frisco.

Have a great week,
Julie

Joys and Meals for the Dusek Family

Wanted to let everyone know that Lori Dusek's colonoscopy came back with positive results!! Also Dennis found full time employment at Plano Sr. High as a Special Ed teacher's aide. He will be working toward his teacher certification as well. God is good!

Lori is having is having a hysterectomy on Sept. 10th (due to a growth on her ovary). To show our support and appreciation for all she does for CRUMC and our children, the pastoral committee will be purchasing 3 gift cards ($25 each) to help with meals. I thought this would be easier since many of us are already signed up to take meals to the Wood family. If you have any objections to using the treasury money please let me know.

I will also pick up a supply of paper goods for them to have on hand during her recovery and when all the other meals come.

Thanks! Janessa
