Joys & Concerns 7/20

Hello All,

We really enjoyed seeing everyone at the Rushings' send off party. I am glad we all had a chance to say goodbye to Mike and Ginny and to meet Parker Grant. They have been great class members and will be missed. Jason Lax led a good discussion on the topic of Simplicity today in class. Jason Lincoln will be continuing the summer study next Sunday.

Joys & Concerns:
Michael Taylor's step-father lost his father
The Fortine Family (relatives of Chad Wood) have had a death in the family
Erica's mother will be traveling this week
Michael Taylor's father tore his ACL
And please keep the Haley family in your thoughts

I want to thank everyone that helped with the food and clean up for the party. Don't forget to sign up for the Whirlyball social so Sherrye can get a head count. Have a great week and see you next Sunday.

Whirlyball social

Hey everyone! Since whirlyball seems to be a favorite of a lot of people I figured we'd do it again for our next social. Here are the following dates (Saturdays) we can do:

Aug 9th, 16th or the 30th.

Please let me know which date is best for you and how many in your party will come. Kids are welcome for this one, but I still need to know so that I can start looking for restaurants that can accomodate. Majority rules so vote now!

Thanks and have a great weekend!

"Second Sunday" Luncheon

Gang - this Sunday we are kicking off our initial "Second Sunday" luncheon. As the name suggests, every 2nd Sunday of the month we will gather after SS at a restaurant TBD (no need to make prior reservations and/or RSVP, just come as you are) for good eats and good times.

This Sunday after class let's plan on gathering at TIN STAR (1008 W McDermott) located in the Lowes's Shopping Center off of McDermott & Watters Rd.

Also, we are coordinating Round 2 of the Dinners for Six and should have the new groups posted soon.

Enjoy the rest of the week and look forward to seeing everyone this Sunday.

July 13,2008

I hope everyone had a fun fourth of July. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again real soon. I wanted to send out a few reminders since so many were out last week.

1) This is the first "Second Sunday" luncheon. I am sure we will hear soon from the Nasers about the location.

2) I am teaching this week on the Discipline of Submission. I am hoping to take it in a completely different direction than we have in the past. Be thinking in advance of the postive and negative aspects of submission in all walks of life, as I hope a majority of our discussion will revolve around that. Any personal examples would only liven up the discussion. Also I was thinking of using two old movies to help illustrate some of the points that I think will come up. Obviously we can't watch them all but think about Lester Burnham from "American Beauty" and Will Hunting from "Good Will Hunting." Think about how submission and lack there of benefited or hurt their lives.

Anyway I think we will have some great discussion on this. Looking forward to seeing everyone there, and lunch too.

Prayer request for Haley Family

I wanted to ask you all to keep the Haley family in your thoughts and prayers. Cindy is recovering from a miscarriage - she was expecting their second child in October, but found out she lost the baby at her fifteen week appointment on May 1. Also, John's brother-in-law, Rick, was in a bad motorcycle accident this past week and was almost killed. He is in ICU and was scheduled for surgery yesterday afternoon. After loosing Cindy's mother last year, I'm sure these events are completely devastating to them. Please pray that God will help them heal from this loss, heal Rick from his injuries and give them hope and encouragement for things to come.

This Sunday, 7/6

Happy 4th of July!

Greetings from Louisiana -

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are taking a quick break this Sunday from the Celebration of Discipline study. This Sunday for your enjoyment we will continue The Chronicles of Narnia-The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Our stopping point two Sundays ago was at the end of scene 13 - Across the Melting River - so we will pick it up from there. Enjoy!

The following Sunday, 7/13, we continue our Celebration of Discipline study as Wayne will lead our discussion on submission. We will conclude our Celebration of Discipline study on 8/3.

I hope everyone is enjoying their 4th of July weekend. Safe travels for everyone traveling this weekend and into next week. We look forward to seeing everyone next Sunday.
