Weekly Update

Greetings - hope eveyone is having a great week and gearing up for the Super Bowl Party this Sunday! Looks like there is some pretty tasty food that has already been posted - I can't wait. Just wanted to pass along the following:

- Mark you calendars for Sunday, 2/17 as we are blessed to have Rev. Diana Holbert, Associate Minister - Education and Spiritual Formation visiting TwoBecomeOne sometime during the last 15 minutes of class that day. Dr. Holbert is our newest associate minister as she joined the CRUMC church family on June 15 of last year. We look forward to her visit!

- "Lead the Vision" Church-Wide Leadership Conference this Saturday, Feb. 2 (7:45am - 12:30 pm, Upper Room). All members of the church are invited to this Leadership Training to learn what church committees do, how a program comes to life and policies that govern ministries. A wonderful opportunity for anyone interested to come and hear more about all the Lay Leadership Committees. Questions? E-mail vision@crumc.org

- If you would like to sign up to receive the CRUMC weekly e-mail newsletter titled E-Connections then navigate to the Links section on top right of this page, click on Custer Road United Methodist Church (which will open up to the CRUMC home page), then click on Sign Up for E-Connections and provide you email address. The newsletter is e-mailed every Thursday and gives a snapshot of upcoming events, news, etc in a quick and easy read format.

This upcoming Sunday we continue our study of the book of Daniel (chapters 3 & 6). Have a great remainder of the week and looking forward to seeing everyone this Sunday!

Prayer Request

I have another prayer request to share, from Virginia Compton:
Virginia's friend Johnny's mom (Teresa) had brain surgery today to remove a tumor near her brain stem, which was just discovered over the weekend. The surgery went well and they think they got all of it, but they are waiting on reports of whether or not it is cancerous. She's doing well and recovering at UT Southwestern.
Additionally, Johnny's grandfather (Teresa's father) fell this morning and is in ICU, unconscious, at Parkland. Please lift Johnny in prayer, as well as the whole Carroll/extended family.
Thank you for your prayers

Super Bowl Party

Hi everyone - Here's a quick update on the upcoming super bowl party. We are splitting the party between two houses (ours and the Rodriguzes) due to the size of the class. Please let me know by Friday Jan. 25 if you will be attending so that I will have time to post which house you will be at as well as a sign up sheet for food. Thank you all and have a great week!

We want to thank everyone for your prayers and support over the past couple of days. Rachel is doing great!!! The doctors are all amazed at how much progress she has made the past day. She was born 6 1/2 weeks early. Nobody knows why she decided to come early but my water broke at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon and she was born at 6:10 a.m Monday morning. Even though she was really early, she still weighed in at a nice 5 pounds 6 ounces and 18" long. At this time she is off all major tubes but her feeding tube. She has been breathing on her own since Monday afternoon. We anticipate that the port (for the IV) will be removed tomorrow morning, as well as the blood-oxygen sensor. That will leave her with just the barest minimum of monitor support (which is really great!). If dirty diapers are any indication, she's definitely doing well. Martha will be discharged tomorrow (Wednesday) at some unknown time.

We appreciate all of the offers of help at this very stressful time. For now, we think we're okay, but are both certain that as soon as she actually comes home from the hospital help with meals and such will be greatly appreciated. We're both really tired right now,but we'll keep everyone up to date as much as we can.

Thank you very much!

Baby Kuykendall is here

Hi all, Paul called this morning to let us know that their baby girl was born this morning at 6:10 am. She is premature - only 33 weeks and is in the NICU at Plano Presbyterian. Her name is Rachel (spelling?) and she weighs over 5 lbs. She seems to be doing well but is having breathing trouble. Martha will be discharged on Wed and they will leave the baby in the NICU for at least 1 week. They are very sad to have to go home without her, so please pray for them in this regard and for baby Rachel's health. If you would like to visit them in the hospital they request you wait until tomorrow to do so. The class will be sending them an arrangement and they may want us to assist with food/meals after they are settled. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this exciting but also difficult time. Thanks, Janessa

Carry the Vision-This Saturday

Greetings everybody! Was great to see everyone this past Sunday and catch up with each other as well as enjoy good food/fellowship.

Just wanted to drop a quick reminder about the "Carry the Vision" all-church Christian Education Training Event this Saturday (1/12) from 8:30 - noon in the Upper Room. All Sunday school leaders/teachers/shepherds/facilitators are invited and encouraged to attend. There will be break-out sessions for all ministries as well as a break-out session facilitated by Chris Bond on new teacher training open to anyone who would like tips, techniques, and help in planning to teach adult Sunday School. All 2008 Officers should have received a separate invite via e-mail and/or mail and there is no need to RSVP (childcare provided w/ advance reservation). I attended last years' event and got a lot out of it - was very beneficial. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great remaider of the week!
